Bee Safe Bee Removal | Large Honey Bee Hive in Brick Fence

Service Details

This job was in early October in Midlothian, when bee colonies are usually heavy with stored honey. The hive was built inside a brick fence column. From the outside, there was visible staining on the lower bricks, and honey was seeping through the mortar joints. Based on the activity at the entry point and the weight behind the wall, it was clear the colony had been established for a while. I have clear photos of the comb structure once exposed, showing how extensive it was inside the cavity. To reach the hive, I had to carefully break and remove several bricks from the affected section of the fence. Once opened, the full size of the colony was visible. The comb was large and dense, with significant honey stores that had begun to saturate the surrounding masonry. I performed a live removal, vacuuming the bees and cutting out the comb section by section. All organic material was taken out to prevent future attraction. After the cavity was cleared, I applied a pheromone blocker inside the brick void. This helps reduce the chance of new scout bees attempting to reoccupy the space. The masonry was then rebuilt and sealed to restore the structural integrity of the fence. Some residual bee traffic remained at the site immediately after the work, which is typical as foragers return to the original location over the next day or two.
