Service Details

This job took place in mid June, which is a common time to see established honey bee colonies showing strong activity. The hive was located in the soffit under a second story balcony, with bees entering through a small seam along the trim. Thermal imaging confirmed a tight, well defined heat signature that lined up with the suspected entry point, so there was no need to open unnecessary sections of the structure. Based on the location and size, live removal with repair was the right approach. I opened the soffit carefully to access the cavity and used a bee vacuum to remove active bees as the structure was exposed. The hive was fully built out and attached to the framing inside the soffit. All comb was removed by hand once bee traffic was under control, and the cavity was cleared of residue that could attract returning bees. The insulation in that section had been impacted by the hive and was removed during the process. After the hive was out, new insulation was installed to bring the space back to its original condition. The soffit was closed and sealed to restore the exterior line of the balcony and prevent future access points. Bee activity continued to taper off after closure, which is expected as remaining foragers returned and dispersed.
